We Found Boudoir in a Hopeless Place | Dallas Boudoir Photography

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Wonderland Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas

Alexis is one of my favorite people in the world.  She is a fashion stylist and model who recently relocated to New York City for work and love.  She came back to Dallas in late December to visit family and friends for the holidays. While in town she requested that I shoot some photos of her for her new blog, Lone Star in the City.  Since Alexis is amazing I couldn’t say no to her!

WHAT HAD HAPPEN WAS...

If you guys weren’t aware on December 26, 2016 major tornadoes hit the North Texas area demolishing blocks and blocks of neighborhoods while many people lost their lives.

Boudoir Dallas, Dallas Boudoir Photography, Wonderland Boudoir

Yeah, we were shooting on that day.  In fact this was supposed to be a twilight boudoir session over the city of Dallas.  However, due to turbulent and unpredictable weather we brought the boudoir session inside of my building.

Yes, these shots took place in the stairwell of my building!  I love how the moody emptiness is also an unspoken and unseen character in these photos.  These photos emphasize her adult allure and sexiness.  .

Check out this video we made with Alexis.  It’s crazy how just the most simplistic of places can spark the most incredible settings.

THE BOUDOIR OUTFIT BREAKDOWN

Boudoir Dallas, Dallas Boudoir Photography, Wonderland Boudoir

BOUDOIR OUTFIT

This whole outfit came from Victoria’s Secret.  I just adore gold hardware and exposed zippers.  I feel like exposed zippers are a node to vintage quality and craftsmanship.   This exposed zipper on this corset top proved to elevate the game of sexiness when it comes to seductive designs.

The matching panties to this set were so incredibly tantalizing.  Too bad they are no longer on sale.  It’s so hard to find geometric cut outs on panties, and these were perfect for that.

The skirt was my FAVORITE part of this whole look.  First of all who doesn’t love silk?  Only crazy people.  There is just SOMETHING about silk that makes you feel instantly high class, sophisticated, and sexy.  Turn that into a tulle maxi skirt and you are asking for any woman to bring out their innermost Upper East side sexiness.

BOUDOIR HAIR

The hair was just simple.  I wanted to do a high poofy and messy bun that sat on the top of her head, but because the outfit was so slick and Spanish inspired we opted for the more for a sleek look to embrace the aura of the feel.

Later in our session I asked Alexis to take her hair down because it was "too" perfect (if you notice in my photos I have a thing for messy-sex-in-the-morning hair.  I wanted to something more grunge, real, and could evoke an emotion of relaxed power and longing.

We leveraged Alexis hair as an element of storytelling.  Look how well Alexis brings in her hair to help elevate the allure of the photos.

BOUDOIR MAKEUP

There is a reason they refer to Jazzy as the King.  He knows what he’s going.  I love how he took a chance by placing a bold red lip on a woman of such a dark complexion.  He helped add drama to the overall look by creating an intense smokey eye look.  Doing this created a sense of mysterious coy power.

This couldn’t have been more fitting for such a crazy night.

Why You Should Not Be Insecure During Your Boudoir Session

Stop Being Insecure About Boudoir

Lets be honest.  We are all have something to be insecure about.  Some are insecure of their lack of knowledge for a certain subject.  Some feel insecure about about coming in last in a race.  Many of us are insecure about certain body types.

Dallas Boudoir, Wonderland Boudoir

The media has done a number on us in this day in time.  We are either too fat, too skinny, too tall, too short, or too muscular.  I mean have you hear people fitness shaming now?  YES!  People have a nerve to say Ronda Rousey and Serena Williams are TOO fit.

Ummm… last time  checked both these women have careers that are based SOLELY around their athleticism.  They literally get paid to make sure they are athletically fit enough to win their matches.  Their job is to be winners.  These two ladies are the epitome of health and fitness.  Saying that Ronda and Serena are too fit is like say Steve Jobs and Michael Dell or too smart.  Or even saying that Drake makes too many hit songs (did you like #BacktoBack?).  That sounds ridiculous, doesn't it?  You are basically criticizing them for being too good at their job.  I do have an article about how to stop being a HATER if you are one of these people who are making a deal because of their bodies.

Today I’m going to explain to why you need to Eff Your Insecurities and just do a boudoir session!  I would have cussed, but I’m trying to be a changed woman…. lets see how long this last.

Just Accept the Fact that No One is Judging You

Jazzy Baptiste Makeup Artist Dallas

I’m going to be honest, during your boudoir session no one is judging.  No one notices all the the flaws you see.  The only thing that your photographer and your glam squad see are what they are going to do to enhance every feature on the body and to make sure they get the optimal photos for your session.

Your Boudoir Photographer is Not Judging You

Dallas Boudoir Karla

Your photographer’s only goal is to make sure you look amazing.  Typically before your scheduled boudoir session most photographers speak about the body parts that you want to hide and enhance.  To be honest, even if you say that you dislike a certain part of your body the photographer should be knowledgeable enough to enhance that part of your body through posing so you can see the beauty that everyone around you notices everyday.

To be honest if anyone should be the most insecure during a shoot it is the photographer.  I know first hand as a boudoir photographer because I get insecurities before EVERY shoot.  I get scared or concerned because I want to make sure that I always get what my client wants.  The photographer is so worried about pleasing you they have no need, want, or desire to spending time judging you.

A photographer notices a unique sense of beauty, especially boudoir photographers.  In order to be a great photographer you must first think like an artist.  I personally grew up around around of all types of medium.  My favorite was paint.  I grew up in love with Georgia O'Keeffe, Norman Rockwell, Diego Rivera, and Keith Haring.

Starting in grade school a recurring motif was art teachers  telling me over and over again that I have a natural ability to paint and understand the concept of art.  Some of the art teachers would look at my style and ask  me who taught me to paint.  No one did.  They said that I hold my brush like a professional painter.  I was 7 at the time.

Even in high school I love creating items in clay.  I love getting down and dirty and creating a blank canvas into something beautiful.  This is what I think about photography.  My ladies that come in are a blank canvas and it’s my job to create beautiful art from each woman’s  unique likeness.

Your Hair & Makeup Team for Boudoir is Not Judging You

Celina Makeup Artist

The Hair and makeup teams is not judging you.  The hair and makeup artist that Wonderland Boudoir teams up with are fantastic team and hand picked.  I not only review the their work and how it compliments my style, but I also take notice on how they treat my clients.  I personally have zero tolerance for anyone who makes my clients feel uncomfortable and insecure.  I may be docile and introverted at times, I will speak up when I need too.

The hair and makeup team are licensed professionals that know how to listen to your wants and needs to help figure out to how work them to fit your personal look. When you see them staring they aren’t judging they are trying to determine what will realistically work for you or what modifications they can make to enhance your beauty.  They will often talk to you about your daily regimen.  If you are feeling insecure about your hair, skin, or makeup skills my team is more than happy to show you some tricks of the trade and products that you can use in your day to day life.

Hair and makeup is only there to help.  They are mostly scared of you judging their work because they want to make sure they are capturing the look just how you envisioned it while at the same time creating the look based off my shooting style.    We have a great article on why you need to hire a professional makeup artist for your boudoir and wedding day.

The Honest Truth about Boudoir Photography

If nothing else puts you at ease think about your boudoir session this way… boudoir photographers have the same insecurities as you.  We are still normal people with normal problems.  We just so happen to have the luxury of taking hundreds of photos each year of women of all shapes, sizes, and cultural backgrounds.  Each woman looks significantly different than the next.  Each one carries a sense of beauty in them that sometimes that don’t notice until the final photos come back.

Just Face the Facts

You are beautiful.  Don’t allow your insecurities to determine what you do in this life.  Own them.  Make them sexy, and flaunt it shamelessly.

In the comments below name something that you USED to be insecure about and what you did you get over it.

Today I’m giving away a $50 gift card to Victoria’s Secret.  The winner will be determined  on 08/29/2015 at 11:59AM.

Wonderland Boudoir on YouTube, Dallas Boudoir Photography

Dallas Bridal Boudoir, Dallas Boudoir YouTube

Wonderland Boudoir finally has a YouTube Channel!

If you have noticed I added a new link to the navigation bar.  That new link is for my YouTube videos.  I want to show off all the work our Dallas Boudoir Studio does and that’s why I decided to start a YouTube channel.

When I have professionalyl made videos I will place them under the navigation bar link. I want to try and make a pro video (where someone is recording while I’m shooting) at least one every quarter.  Since this was my summer video I may wait another 6 months and work on a New Year’s video.  There are a lot of classes and workshops I want to take before producing another quality video.

The videos that you see were actually shoot and created by Aaron Fairooz of Fairooz Imaging.  I couldn't speak more highly of this man.  Aaron is a gently giant.  I welcomed his suggestions and he was very easy to talk too.  He is very professional and right to the point. I also like the fact that he had both of these videos back to me THE SAME DAY!  It was SO CRAZY!  If you are looking for an amazing videographer in the Dallas Fort Worth area then I suggest contacting Aaron.  You can find his site HERE!

My Professional Videos!

What will Wonderland Boudoir Cover on YouTube?

  • FAQ Videos about Boudoir
  • Makeup & Hair Tips for a Boudoir Session
  • BTS (Behind the Scene) videos including Traveling & Vlogs
  • How to Make Drink Videos
  • Style & Fashion for Boudoir

How Often Will You Post?

As I get a handle on both my 9-5 and business schedule I will begin posting once every two weeks.  As I get better as prioritizing my goal is to amp it up to a video a week.

Who will be in the Videos?

Outside of myself, the people will be the hair, makeup, and fashion stylist I most commonly work with in the area.  I want to provide you guys with expert advice from these industry experts that you can trust.

When Will You Upload?

I’m still deciding on that.  It’s going to take some time to learn when the best day of the week is to upload. It seems to me that Wednesday is a very popular day on YouTube, but I will be conducting some trial and error to see what works and what doesn’t.

Who are your Favorite People to Watch on YouTube?

Shameless Maya – I love the grind of this woman.  She inspires me to get up every day and reach for my goals.  I love how she adopted the idea of being completely and utterly shameless in her journey to reach the stars and I plan on implementing more of that in my every day routine

Claire Marshall – I love the way that she structures her videos.  You can tell that she puts a lot of time and thought into making visually stimulating and interesting content that make people come back.  Plus I LOVE Bruce.

MKBHD – Yes!  This man is amazing.  He has been making YouTube videos since he was a young child and you see him, literally, grow up right before your eyes.  This guy is informative, articulate, and detail oriented.  I find myself checking his channel out first before I make any major investments when it comes to my electronics and everyday technologies.

CommunityChannel – I love how beautifully self-deprecating she can be while \ still relating to the everyday First World problems we all have to endure.  She has been making videos for years and was one of the first YouTubers that I ever started watching.

WongFuOMFG!  If you guys aren’t watching Ted, Phil, and Wes’s videos then you are really missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures.  These three friends have been grinding on YouTube for years and most recently have raised money and produced a full length movie that should be coming out any day now.  Their videos on YouTube are stunningly shot and have so much meaning to them.  I will admit even I have shed a tear or two watching their work.  I will be drawing inspiration from them when I create my own videos.

Why Are You Creating a YouTube Channel?

I believe creating a YouTube channel will help you guys see more of my personality and understand how central photography, and more importantly boudoir is to me.  Plus, it’s kinda fun getting to know the story behind the person bringing you all this amazing content.

I am also hoping that if you have a boudoir session scheduled with me or another photographer then these videos will be essential and informative to get you ready for your own session.

In the comments below please let me know what types of videos you would like me to create!

Dallas Boudoir Photography: A Class Act, Subtley Sexy Boudoir

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Class Act, Wonderland Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas Photography

Ms. K is nothing short of a class act!

While she still wanted to be sexy she wanted to be covered up a bit more.  Yes, at Wondelrand Boudoir, a Dallas Boudoir Photography studio,  you can do that for a boudoir session.  A boudoir session isn’t classified by how much you take off it’s classified by how much fierceness you bring to you session.

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Class Act, Wonderland Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas Photography, Dominican Girls, Fashion, Photography

While each girl showed a different element I believe that Ms. K was a clear class act.  I have to admit that her outfit was on point.  I’m not sure where all the pieces came from, but I will say they were excellently curated.

For her first look Ms. K rocked a cute black sequin baby doll dress.  This was a great choice because it really highlighted her legs.  Ms. K has excellent skin and a beautiful complexion so her choosing this dress as a final selection for her boudoir shoot was a great idea.

The dress was also beautiful because it showed off her beautiful shoulder tattoo.  As I said in the Girl Ink post I believe that tattoos are awesome for boudoir sessions and that you should defiantly show them off as they will make your session more unique.

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Class Act, Wonderland Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas Photography, Dominican Girls, Fashion, Photography

The second outfit really brought sexy CEO realness!  There are very few pieces in our everyday corporate clothes collections that are hotter than a pencil skirt.  Since 2008 pencil skirts have made a real comeback and they are here to stay.  If you’re looking for a way to be super hot at work without wearing tight clothes the pencil skirt should be your go to piece.  The fact that the pencil skirt was leather really help highlight her gorgeous curves and make the look that much better for her boudoir sessions.

She stepped it up 180% with this beautiful red corset.  This was a great choice because the red corset really pops again her golden undertone tan skin.  Corsets are great way to shape the body into a beautiful hour glass figure.

The jewelry was kept to a minimum because in boudoir photography we like concentrate on the body and face.  Too much jewelry can be very distracting.  Ms. K wore simple stud earrings and a dainty necklace that added highlights her beautiful décolletage area.

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Class Act, Wonderland Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas Photography, Dominican Girls, Fashion, Photography

The hair is by the beautiful and talented to Dominique of ManeAffairInc.  ManeAffair can be found in Mesquite, Texas.  Dominique is one of the top talent in the DFW area and is one of the most versatile hair artist in the city.  I couldn’t recommend her more because her work is second to none.  To see more of Dominique’s work please visit her website and Instagram page.

Ms. Alessandra did the makeup for Ms. K.   Since the outfits for her boudoir session is a timeless sexy she gave her makeup that would transition with years to come.  Her look is very natural but still added a pop of fun with the lips.  Can we TALK about the face contouring for a second?  Ms. K already has some of the most beautiful cheekbones I have ever seen, but Alessandra really made them stand out to add a dash of pop to her photos.  Don’t you think that Alessandra should start a YouTube channel?  I think so too.  To see more of Alessandra’s work please visit her site and Instagram page.

Without further ado here are more photos of the beautiful Ms. K.

Dallas Boudoir Photography: Girl Ink, Tattoo Boudoir Session

One of the most common questions I get asked is if tattoos will be okay for a boudoir session.  My answer?  Tattoos are bloody awesome for boudoir sessions! Tattoos make your sessions more unique and always add a dash of edginess to all your photos.

Ms. X has some of the best tattoos to date and they really brought an extra dose of wow to each frame.

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Boudoir Photography Dallas, All Black Everything, Fashion, Makeup, Tattoos,

From her dark hair and very fair skin she brought the element of fierce.  What I loved most?  The fact she was a tall girl who was not scared to rock heels.  Heels, no matter your height, always make legs look toner and taller, and make your posture look better… and that’s always a good thing.

The makeup for Ms. X boudoir session was on point.  Again, Alessandra did the makeup.  She decided to go a little more edgy with Ms X and give her purple eyebrows and reverse ombre lips.  How cool does that look?  I have NEVER seen reverse ombre lips and Alessandra dropped the mic on it.  To see more of Alessandra’s work please visit her site at MakeupartistDFW.com or follow her on Instagram at Alessandra_MUA.

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Boudoir Photography Dallas, All Black Everything, Fashion, Makeup, Tattoos,

Ms. X went for a dynamic all black look. The girls all came with coordinating outfits.  Having a theme for your boudoir party is always a fun idea.  It will be great for you and your girlfriends to look back and smile.

Ms. X wore a great outfit.  In her first look she wore a cute black crop top and skirt set.  I suggested that she add the oversized black floppy hat. The hat added a sense of glamor and fun to her photos.  However her 5 inch wedge spiked heels added the badass factor.

Her second session she decided to go more street. She rocked a letterman jacket from Forever21 and a beautiful sheer white bra set from American Apparel.

Her posing game was for the Gods!  This whole group was amazing because once they dropped all the fear and insecurity the ultimate fierceness came out.  If you are doing a boudoir session then leave all your insecurities outside.  It’s all about you.  No one is judging you.  The photographer is not looking at your faults.  The only goal is to make you look as beautiful as possible.

The photographer will attempt to accomplish this through hair, makeup, styling, and posing.  The same as we did here with Ms. X.

Without Further Ado, Ms. X

Dallas Boudoir Photography: Confidence is Sexy

Condience is Sexy, How to be #Confident, Dallas Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas, Wonderland Boudoir Photography

Wonderland Boudoir is a Dallas based boudoir photography studio who loves creating memories that will last you a lifetime.  One of our favorite ways to accomplish that goal is through boudoir parties.  Boudoir parties are a great way for you and up to 5 of your closest girlfriend to have some girls time while having beautiful photos taken of yourselves.  Boudoir parties are great for bachelorettes, birthday, and gifts for that special someone in your life.  During the month of May you can save 25% off this awesome session!  Please contact us for more details!

We had our first ever Boudoir Party late last year with four amazing women.  You can actually see their photos in a previous post, What is a Boudoir Party.

We had SUCH a blast at this session… maybe too much fun.  LOL.  In our previous post we shared what it looks like behind the scenes of a boudoir party session.  This go around we wanted to share with you the individual photos of each woman.  Today let me introduce you to Ms. A.  Isn’t she GORGEOUS?!

#Happines is a #Habit, Happiness is a Habit, Dallas Boudoir Photography

Yes!  You may have recognized our beautiful client from the post Happiness is a Habit.

Each lady had a different idea of what they wanted to wear for their session.  Ms. A decided to go with classic sexy.  She brought with her long lace and colors that complimented her skin complexion.

For her face we went with a soft flirty look that matched the transitioning seasons from Fall to Winter.  Her wavy hair complimented the overall look of the session.  She wanted a mix of playful and sexy with a dash of classy.

Ms. A brought with her an array of clothing options.  She knew where she was going but didn’t know exactly how to get there.  Therefore she made sure she brought with her more than enough outfits for her session.

TIP: Having too many options is better than not enough. This goes for almost every aspect of your life.

Most of the clothes that Ms A is wearing came from Forever 21.  Yes, it is possible to look as fashionable as her without having to break the bank.

If there is one thing Ms. A did not leave at home was her confidence.  This woman SLAYED IT!  She left any ounce of insecurities she had at the door and embraced the whole boudoir experience.  She was clearly in the moment.  You can easily see this in her photos.  Ms. A was focused, listened well, open minded, but wasn’t scared to share her opinions and what she wanted out of the session.

Ms. A was also very genuine. She is as beautiful inside and out and I think that translated well from her photos.  I adore the fact that she could go from cute to siren in .0001 seconds.   I LIVE for it!

How to be #Confident, Dallas Boudoir, Boudoir Dallas, Wonderland Boudoir Photography

What you can learn from Ms. A?

Lesson 01: Confidence is fucking Sexy.

The End.

Lesson 02: Wear clothes that flatter your frame.

Ms. A is a beautiful curvy woman and she was able to portray that with complete ease.  In her first outfit she rocked a catsuit… some people may refer to it has a winter romper, but whatever name you have for that outfit it was amazing.  The romper has a design on the center that cinched her stomach and made it look even smaller.  Also, you can tell she tried it on because the outfit wasn’t too tight or too big.  Too tight or too baggy clothes don’t make you look smaller.  Finding clothes that fit your frame correctly makes you look smaller.

If you want to hide your stomach for a boudoir sessions do not bring a simple bra and panty set.  Wear a baby doll dress, bring a chemise, or rock a teddy. These outfits not only hide your tummy, but make you look even slimmer when posed correctly by your photographer.

Lesson 03: Wearing nude heels to a boudoir sessions is an absolute plus.

Nude heels help to elongate your legs, adds more muscle tone, and cranks up the sexy factor by at least 25%.  Nude heels are a must for any adult female’s wardrobe, with or without a boudoir session in the future.

So without further ado here is Ms. A!

Hotter than Hell, Dallas Boudoir

Dallas Boudoir Photography, Wonderland Boudoir

Jessica Rabbit has nothing on Mrs. B.  While I love the clients who come in with an open mind and like for me to plan everything I also appreciate when a client knows exactly want she wants.  This was Mrs. B.  She came in to our Dallas Boudoir studio with a definite idea in her mind.  Typically I tell clients to build a Pinterest to help streamline the ideas, style, hair, and makeup they really want from their session, but not B.  She came to me with all that information. LOVED IT!

The inspiration for her session steamed from a Vicotoria's Secrets holiday ad with Bank's Waiting Game playing in the background.  Check out the video below!

After this session I just fell in love with this song.

Dallas Boudoir

Mrs. B wanted to go for a very classic bombshell look.  Therefore Jazzy, the makeup artist,  gave her a classic red lip and amazing face to draw focus to her beautiful eyes.  The hair game was ON POINT! *snaps* Dominique Dai from Mane Affair located in Mesquite, Texas is master when it  comes to hair.  Let me tell you something.  I did not know that one could do pin curls with someone with so much hair.  WOW!  I’m still floored… but I guess that’s because I can barely do my own hair… moving on.

Dallas Boudoir Makeup

The day started with Jazzy and Dominique getting in super early to set up.  Not long after that Brian the owner and videographer from BKM Films came in and set up.  Watching a videographer work is just so amazing.  I really felt like I was on a movie set.  I really enjoyed seeing the work it takes to make a professional video and then the final product.

Mrs. B first look was a little black dress.  I’m not sure who made it, but for future post I will see if I can get the designers of the clothes for all you fashion junkies out there.  The shoes were Louboutins.  Her second and third outfits came from Victoria’s Secret.  The shoes from the second look (in the red piece) are from Betsy Johnson.  They are one of my best buys from 2014!  The necklace in the third look was by forever 21. Yes!  Another wonderful purchase made by Wonderland Boudoir!

Mrs. B did not choose any of the productions. She actually chose to do her session al cart.  She booked a glam squad, 3 sets, a videographer, and wanted 75 digital photos.

The first set was on the beautiful Colette couch that I actually purchased from Pier 1.  Another amazing buy in 2014!

The second set was a simple white studio theme.  This is where she did a lot of floor and bed work.

The last set was the Moroccan set.  This whole set came from Pier 1 as well. Yes, Pier 1 has A LOT of great items there that you should check out and purchase.

We had so much fun shooting with Mrs. B.  I loved how she came in with a plan and how she wanted it executed.

Without further ado please enjoy the photos!
